چکیده
Abstract Brachytherapy has an excellent clinical outcome for different treatment sites. However, in vivo verification is not performed the majority of hospitals due to lack proper monitoring systems. This study investigates use imaging panel (IP) and photons emitted by a high dose rate (HDR) 192 Ir source track motion obtain some information related patient anatomy. The feasibility this approach was studied delivery 3D printed phantom that mimicks prostate patient. A designed with template needle insertion, cavity (‘rectum’) insert ultrasound probe, lateral cavities used place tissue-equivalent materials. CT images were acquired create HDR plans range dwell times, interdwell distances arrangements. Treatment verified IP placed at several positions around using radiopaque markers on outer surface register planning CT. All identified acquisition times ≤0.11 s (frame rates ≥ 9 fps). Interdwell (in relation IP) accuracy better than 0.1 cm. Radiopaque visible could be registration images. Uncertainties image (IP CT) between 0.4 sensitive tissue-mimicking composition showed boundaries improve verification. provided sufficient time spatial resolution real-time tracking allows results obtained indicate errors detected including swapped catheters, incorrect positions.

High-Dose-Rate 192Ir Brachytherapy Dose Verification: A Phantom Study
BACKGROUND The high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy might be an effective tool for palliation of dysphagia. Because of some concerns about adverse effects due to absorbed radiation dose, it is important to estimate absorbed dose in risky organs during this treatment. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to measure the absorbed dose in the parotid, thyroid, and submandibular gland, eye, trachea, spinal c...
متن کاملDeveloping a Verification and Training Phantom for Gynecological Brachytherapy System
Introduction Dosimetric accuracy is a major issue in the quality assurance (QA) program for treatment planning systems (TPS). An important contribution to this process has been a proper dosimetry method to guarantee the accuracy of delivered dose to the tumor. In brachytherapy (BT) of gynecological (Gyn) cancer it is usual to insert a combination of tandem and ovoid applicators with a complicat...
متن کاملTreatment of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma with external beam radiation combined with interstitial brachytherapy.
BACKGROUND We reviewed the outcomes of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma treated with external beam radiation and interstitial brachytherapy. METHODS Ninety patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the oropharynx were treated with interstitial brachytherapy at the University of Utah between 1984 and 2001. Seventy-two patients received external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) followed by brachyth...
متن کاملDosimetric Parameters Estimation of I-125 Brachytherapy Source in fat phantom using GATE8.0 code
Introduction: Brachytherapy is one type of internal radiation therapy where radiation sources, which are usually encapsulated, are placed as close as possible to the tumor site or inside the patient's body. In this technique, it is important to determine dose distribution around the brachytherapy capsule to create optimal treatment plant. In this way, dosimetric parameters are...
متن کاملDosimetric verification of pre-treatment intensity modulated radiation therapy in the commissioning process
Background: Commissioning tests are recommended before implementing Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy. This study evaluated five different plans of IMRT mocks for different modulation indices. Materials and Methods: IMRT tests were done in slab phantom for both 6MV and 15 MV photon energies using a 2D array ion chamber dosimeter. Results: The acceptance criteria were based on 3% /3mm. All t...
